English naturalist John Gould visited Australia 1838-1840 to conduct research and collect specimens for his famous ‘The Birds of Australia’ series. During his stay he also developed an interest in Australian mammals. Gould published ‘A Monograph of the Macropodidae, or Family of Kangaroos’ 1841-42, and ‘Mammals of Australia’ 1845-1863.
