‘The Birds of Australia’ is one of the most famous publications on Australian birds, written by English ornithologist John Gould. He and his wife Elizabeth visited Australia 1838-1840 to conduct field research. Elizabeth made many preparatory drawings while she was in Australia and these sketches were used by later artists such as Henry Constantine Richter to create the final illustrations for the books.
A supplement to ‘The Birds of Australia’ was published 1851-1869.
