Originally believed to have been a sea-dwelling beast (hence its name), the Cetiosaurus was one of the first sauropods ever to be discovered, the first fossils of which were unearthed in the Cottswold Hills in Oxfordshire, England.
The predecessor of even larger sauropods like Brachiosaurus, Cetiosaurus was nontheless an extremely large creature, measuring up to 16 metres and weighing up to 11 metric tonnes! Sauropods are believed to have developed their long articulated necks to reach foliage high above the ground, much like giraffes today.
This anatomical model is only a fraction of the size of the original, and based on the latest scientific information, and is a great figurine for play, study and decoration.
